St Marys Harbour Isles of Scilly

Environment

At St. Mary’s Harbour, our environmental priorities are centered on protecting and maintaining our marine ecosystem and promoting sustainable practices.

We are committed to reducing waste through recycling programs and proper disposal methods. Additionally, we promote the use of environmentally friendly products and encourage all harbour users to adhere to best practices that support our environmental goals. Through these efforts, we aim to protect the natural beauty and biodiversity of our harbour for future generations.

We work closely with our partners at Natural England, Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust and many more in helping to share best practice information and to keep our customers better informed – see the useful information section below.

Record seagrass sightings in SeagrassSpotter

Why is seagrass important?

Seagrass is important in the fight against climate change. Seagrass meadows in the Isles of Scilly store the amount of carbon produced by flights from Newquay to Scilly for 10,000 passengers every year. Seagrass improves water quality and provides a home, place to breed and safe nursery for many animals, including some rare and endangered species.
